Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision Statistics

Over the past few years, the number of car accidents in the United States has increased. In 2018, a total of 33,654 people were killed in car accidents. Approximately 36,560 persons died as a result of car accidents.

The state’s extensive and crowded roadways are regular sites of fatal car accidents. As a result of high-speed driving and truck accidents, many people are killed on California’s roadways each year.

An OTS poll found that 57% of Californians thought it is acceptable to drive ten miles per hour over the posted speed limit on the state’s freeways. Nearly 40% of those polled felt they were unlikely to be ticketed for going ten mph over the limit.

The temptation to take your eyes off the road has never been higher for Bakersfield drivers. Worse still, texting and driving are just as deadly as drunk driving.

Like drunk driving, distracted driving is a serious public safety threat that must be deterred. Personal injury victims must hold distracted drivers accountable for their actions. It can be more difficult to prosecute a distracted driver than a drunk driver, and for this reason, distracted drivers do not always face criminal charges.
