Fatal Big Rig Crash Statistics

Semi-trucks are essential to our economy. The trucking business in the United States transports billions of dollars of commodities each year. Unfortunately, with more big rigs traveling on the roadways, big-rig-related traffic accidents are also rising.

Truck collisions are more fatal than other car collisions because of their size and weight. This is largely due to the vast size disparity between big rigs and ordinary vehicles.

Accidents involving big rigs have increased since 2009, according to the US Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS). There were 4,102 big rig-related road deaths in 2017.

Semi-truck accidents are caused by various circumstances, including driver error, driver weariness, tire blowouts, vehicle failures that disable or do not disable the vehicle, and excessive speed.
