[05-07-2020] Alameda County, CA – One Man Dead After a Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Fremont

An unidentified 20-year-old man was killed after a motorcycle crash in Fremont on Thursday morning, May 7th.

According to the initial reports from local authorities, the crash occurred at around 7 a.m. on Highway 680 near Mission Boulevard.

The motorcycle rider was seen traveling at an unsafe speed. He was driving southbound on Highway 680 when he collided with a 2006 Chevrolet Impala that was slowing down.

Due to the severity of the impact, the rider was ejected from his motorcycle. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in San Jose but was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala was uninjured.

Fatal Motorcycle Accident Investigation is Underway

Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Some of the common factors why motorcycle accidents occur are distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving, and failure to observe traffic laws. According to the data from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcycle riders are 16 times more at risk of injury and 35 times more at risk of facing fatal crashes in comparison to a passenger of a private vehicle.

This is because motorcycle riders are less protected from the dangers on the road in comparison with a passenger of a private car. Motorcycle riders are also at risk of sustaining fatal injuries that could lead to paralysis and death. All riders are required by law (in most states) to wear a helmet and are also encouraged to dress appropriately when riding their motorcycles. It is proven that helmets are 37% effective in preventing motorcycle deaths.

When facing cases like this, it’s vital to have an experienced Alameda wrongful death attorney specializing in fatal motorcycle accidents to conduct an independent probe. Attorneys have the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, and review applicable insurance coverage for their client. All possible contributing factors, such as road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting, must be considered and thoroughly examined during the independent investigation as well.
