[01-09-2021] Alameda County, CA – One Person Dead, Six Injured After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in San Leandro

One unidentified person was killed while six others were hurt after a multi-vehicle traffic collision in San Leandro on Saturday morning, January 9. 

The fatal collision took place on southbound Interstate 880 near the Floresta Boulevard overpass in San Leandro at around 1:00 a.m. An unspecified vehicle was initially traveling on the northbound lanes of Interstate 880 when it suddenly rear-ended another car. 

The other vehicle then overturned due to the severity of the impact, and two of its passengers were ejected as a result.  A passerby stopped his vehicle on the roadway and attempted to help the victims but was unfortunately hit by another passing car. 

The helpful passerby was pronounced dead at the scene, while six people sustained moderate to severe injuries from the accident. 

The injured parties were taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and Highland Hospital in Oakland.  Authorities later determined that one of the drivers was intoxicated at the time of the accident. The identity and the condition of the driver have not been disclosed. They were arrested for driving under the influence.
