Two people were injured due to a head-on collision in a rural area in Contra Costa County on Sunday night, October 18.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s initial reports, the major car collision happened at around 6:45 p.m. about a half-mile north of the intersection of Camino Tassajara and Windemere Parkway. A black Chrysler and a white Volkswagen collided head-on on the roadway for unexplained reasons. It is currently unclear why the two vehicles crashed into each other.
One of the drivers had to be airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek while the other driver was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
Neither of the victims suffered from life-threatening injuries. The California Highway Patrol suspect that drugs or alcohol may have played a part in the accident.
Head-On Collision Investigation is Underway
Local authorities are currently further investigating the accident. They will attempt to determine the factors that caused the accident to occur and establish liability.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics, there were 3,304 fatal car accidents in California in 2017. Although head-on collisions only represent 2 percent of accidents, they account for 10 percent of U.S. roadways.
Head-on crashes can happen on any highway, but they are more prevalent in narrow lanes, places with low lighting, and no guardrails or traffic dividers. These accidents are caused by various reasons, such as distracted driving, drunk driving, and driver over-fatigue.
When facing cases like this, it’s essential to have an experienced Contra Costa County personal injury attorney conduct an independent probe. Attorneys have the resources that can help them prove the negligence of the guilty party. They will re-interview important witnesses, review relevant surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain the liable party’s phone and texting records.
