[01-08-2021] Contra Costa County, CA – Wrong-Way Crash in Pinole Kills One Person

An unidentified 46-year-old man from Vallejo was killed while two other people were injured after a wrong-way crash in Pinole on Friday morning, January 8.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Interstate Highway 80, just west of Pinole Valley Road.

A 2015 Toyota Camry driven by a 78-year-old woman was reportedly driving westbound in the eastbound lanes for unclear reasons. It then collided with an eastbound silver 2007 Ford Focus.

The driver of the Ford Focus was trapped in the wreckage. He was extricated by emergency personnel and rushed to John Muir Medical Center, where he was sadly pronounced dead.

A passenger from the Ford Focus sustained minor injuries from the accident. The Toyota Camry driver, who was initially reported missing, suffered from life-threatening injuries. She was immediately taken to John Muir Medical Center for treatment.

Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Investigation is Underway
