[04-23-2020] Fresno, CA – One Person Dead After a Pedestrian Accident in East Shields Avenue

A 27-year-old transgender woman identified as Isaac Romero was killed after getting struck by a vehicle in Fresno on Thursday morning, April 23rd.

According to the initial reports from the local authorities, the accident occurred at around 9:15 p.m. The victim was walking at East Shields Avenue and North Maroa Avenue when she was suddenly struck by a vehicle.

The driver that hit the victim remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. The driver claims that he was unable to see the victim until she was in front of his vehicle. The driver was, unfortunately, unable to avoid the victim and inevitably hit her.

The victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The driver did not appear to be impaired at the time of the accident.

Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation is Underway

The California Highway Police is currently attempting to determine the cause of the accident through the official investigation.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, approximately 6,227 pedestrians were killed in the U.S. in 2018, which was a 250 increase from the previous years. There’s a 41 percent increase in pedestrian fatalities in the U.S. since 2008, which accounts for 16 percent of all traffic fatalities.

When facing cases like this, it’s imperative to have a seasoned Fresno accident attorney specializing in fatal pedestrian accidents to conduct an independent probe to help the victim’s family.

Attorneys have the resource that can help them prove the negligence of the guilty party. All contributing factors, including road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting, must be considered and thoroughly examined.

Fresno Wrongful Death Attorneys Can Help

Regardless of whether a pedestrian was walking on a marked crosswalk or not, the driver always must yield any incoming pedestrians in his way.

Suddenly losing a loved one due to a fatal pedestrian accident can be extremely stressful and overwhelming. While waiting for the results of the official investigation, the victim’s family is encouraged to pursue a wrongful death claim with the help of their attorney.

Through the wrongful death claim, the victim’s family can seek compensation for the damages such as loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress that the fatal accident has caused them.

Attorneys can serve as a helpful legal guide for the grieving family during this difficult time. They will make sure that their client’s rights and best interests are protected while ensuring that the liable party will be held accountable for their negligence.
