DUI Motorcycle Crash Statistics
Motorcycle accidents are increasing at an alarming rate across the country. After all, in 2017, approximately 8.7 million motorcycles were registered in the country. In 2019, 5,014 motorcycle riders were killed in traffic accidents.
Motorcycle riders are undeniably among the most vulnerable road users. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcycle riders are 16 times more likely to be injured and 35 times more likely to be killed in a crash than car passengers (NHTSA).
There are several reasons why motorcycle accidents happen. Some common causes of motorcycle accidents are speeding, being distracted, driving aggressively, or under the influence of alcohol; accidents are more likely to occur.
In this case, a DUI driver was involved. Everyone has a right to travel safely on the streets. Drunk drivers put the lives of innocent people — as well as their own — in grave danger. There is still a long way to go to reduce the number of people who drink and drive in California and across the country.
The NHTSA estimates that approximately 30 Americans lose their lives every day due to drunk driving accidents. About 29% of all traffic-related deaths in the United States are the result of drunk driving. Sixty-one percent of these motorists have a BAC over the legal limit of.08.
