Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision Statistics

Every sixty seconds, a car accident occurs somewhere in the United States. This is hardly surprising given that millions of automobiles drive across U.S. highways every day. With so many vehicles sharing the same roads, traffic congestion, gridlock, and (most gravely) car accidents — fatal and catastrophic injuries – are unavoidable.

Being in a car accident may be a painful event for both the victims and their families. Fresno has a higher than average number of severe auto accidents compared to other cities in the state. Between 2003 and 2016, about 10,897 collisions were reported on the city’s roads, including those involving severe bodily harm and fatalities. At least 270 individuals were killed during this time, and over 15000 people were injured in various ways.

The majority of the collisions occurred on state highways, accounting for around 35.5 percent of traffic accidents. A variety of reasons causes these car accidents; they mainly occur due to drunk drivers, distracted drivers, people who break the speed limit, and drivers who ignore road laws in general.
