A 68-year-old man identified as Leonard Matsuyama sustained severe injuries after a hit-and-run motorcycle accident in Fresno on Monday morning, August 31.
The accident took place near the intersection of Jensen Avenue and Brawley Avenue at around 5:30 a.m. According to the initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, a white Ford F-150 rear-ended the victim’s motorcycle and fled the scene. The rider was then caught beneath the vehicle and was dragged between 100 and 200 feet.
As a result, he sustained significant injuries as a result of the crash. The victim was rushed to the Community Regional Medical Center to receive treatment. The hit-and-run driver’s vehicle is suspected to be the 1990s or early 2000 Ford F-150.
Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crash Investigation is Underway
Local authorities are currently investigating the case. It is apparent in this case that the liability falls on the hit-and-run driver for leaving the victim wounded and fleeing the scene. The suspect will most likely face criminal charges once caught. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol at (559) 705-2200 for any additional information they can provide.
Motorcycle riders are more vulnerable to the dangers on the road compared to passengers of private cars. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics, motorcycle riders have 16 times the risk of injury and 35 times the risk of a fatal crash in comparison to car passengers. Motorcycle riders are encouraged to dress appropriately and wear a helmet every time they ride their motorcycle to avoid fatal injuries. Wearing helmets were estimated to be 37% effective in preventing motorcycle deaths.
