A 55-year-old woman identified as Lavonda M. was killed after getting struck by a hit-and-run driver in southwest Fresno on Friday night, March 5.
According to the initial reports from local authorities, the accident transpired at around 7:00 p.m. in the area of Grove and Elm avenues.
The victim was walking across the road from a convenience store when a passing vehicle suddenly struck her. She was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident. The driver that struck the woman did not stop to render aid and fled the scene. The vehicle was suspected to be a 2015 to 2020 grey or light-colored Kia Optima.
A concerned bystander found the victim lying near the center divider. The person attempted to perform CPR on the victim. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Police suspect that the suspect’s vehicle may have sustained major front-end damage from the accident. Local authorities are currently investigating the case and actively pursuing the hit-and-run driver.
