Fatal Motorcycle Accident Statistics
Motorcyclists are more vulnerable to road hazards because they lack the protection of seatbelts and airbags. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics, motorcycle riders have 16 times the risk of injury and 35 times the risk of a fatal crash compared to car passengers.
Motorcycle accidents can result in life-threatening injuries or fatalities. According to the NHTSA’s data, there were 5,286 motorcycle fatalities in the United States in 2016. Using helmets has been proven to be effective in preventing fatal head injuries. Using motorcycle helmets was 37% effective in preventing severe head injuries that may lead to death.
Riders are therefore urged always to wear helmets and other protective gear when traveling. Helmets save lives by lessening the severity of head injuries in collisions. If you are involved in a motorcycle accident, you should call the police as soon as possible.
