[05-19-2020] Kern County, CA – One Man Seriously Hurt After a Motorcycle Accident in Bakersfield.

One person was seriously injured after a motorcycle accident in Bakersfield on Tuesday afternoon, May 19th.

Highway 184 at Fuller DriveAccording to the initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at around 1:38 p.m. on Highway 184 at Fuller Drive. The crash was between a motorcycle and a van.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they found the motorcycle stuck underneath the van.

The injured person was later identified as William Dominguez. He was immediately transported to Kern Medical Center with significant injuries, while another party that was with him at the time of the crash was uninjured.

Motorcycle Accident Investigation is Underway

Local authorities are now attempting to determine the accident’s factors through the official investigation.

Some of the common factors why motorcycle accidents occur are distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving, and failure to observe traffic laws. According to the data from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcycle riders are 16 times more at risk of injury and 35 times more at risk of facing fatal crashes in comparison to a passenger of a private vehicle.

This is because motorcycle riders are less protected from the dangers on the road than a private car passenger. Motorcycle riders are also at risk of sustaining fatal injuries that could lead to paralysis and death. All riders are required by law (in most states) to wear a helmet and are encouraged to dress appropriately when riding their motorcycles. It is proven that masks are 37% effective in preventing motorcycle deaths.

When facing cases like this, it’s vital to have an experienced Bakersfield accident attorney to conduct an independent investigation. Attorneys have the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, and review applicable insurance coverage for their client. All possible contributing factors, such as road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting, must be considered and thoroughly examined during the independent investigation as well.
