[07-22-2020] Kern County, CA – Three People Injured After a Car Racing Accident in Bakersfield

[07-22-2020] Kern County, CA - Three People Injured After a Car Racing Accident in Bakersfield Three people were hurt after a car crashed into a Bakersfield building on Wednesday night, July 22.

According to the initial reports from local authorities, the accident transpired at around 7:00 p.m. in Niles Street’s 3300 block. Two vehicles were reportedly seen racing against each other, ending up crashing into a building near the corner at Niles Street and Isabell Road.

A father and a son working inside the building were injured due to the accident. The father suffered from significant injuries while the son sustained minor injuries. Two occupants from the vehicle also sustained injuries. All of the injured victims were transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment.

Car Accident Investigation is Underway

The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the accident. Nine out of every 100,000 drivers in the U.S. had received a citation for street racing while the average number of vehicle-related deather per 100,000 back in 2017 was 11.4%.

To determine if the suspect did indeed participate in a street race, these four bullet points must be considered: You were a participant in a motor vehicle race, this took place on a “highway,” you willfully engaged, and the race was against another motorist or a clock. Street Racing is illegal in California. Violaters are expected to pay a fine of $300 up to $1000. Violaters will also potentially serve a sentence between 1 month to 6 months if the speed contest resulted in injuries.

When facing cases like this, it’s essential to have an experienced Bakersfield personal injury attorney specializing in street racing accidents to conduct an independent investigation. They will re-interview important witnesses, review relevant surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party.
