Two officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were injured after a head-on collision at an intersection in West Los Angeles on Wednesday evening, July 22.
According to the initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at around 9:20 p.m. A driver failed to stop at a stoplight, which caused it to collide head-on with the LAPD vehicle. The driver of the car was given a sobriety test at the scene.
The two officers were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. They sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Additional information about the accident is currently limited at the moment.
Head-On Collision Investigation is Underway
Local authorities are currently further investigating the accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics, there were 3,304 fatal car accidents in California in 2017. Although head-on collisions only represent 2 percent of accidents, they account for 10 percent of fatalities on U.S. roadways. These types of accidents are caused by various reasons, such as distracted driving, drunk driving, and driver over-fatigue.
