Pedestrians are more susceptible to the dangers on the road in comparison with passengers in a private vehicle. Pedestrian fatalities are rising at an alarming rate over recent years. The percentage of pedestrian fatalities in the U.S. has increased at a whopping 41 percent since 2008, which accounts for 16 percent of all traffic fatalities. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, around 6,227 pedestrians were killed in the U.S. in 2018, which was a 250 increase from the previous year.

When facing cases like this, it’s essential to have an experienced Los Angeles wrongful death attorney specializing in fatal pedestrian accidents to conduct an independent investigation. Attorneys have the resources to interview essential witnesses, review related surveillance footage from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party. All possible contributing factors, such as road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting, must be considered and thoroughly examined during the independent investigation.

Regardless of whether the victim was walking on a marked crosswalk or not, the driver always has to yield any incoming pedestrians in his way.
