The deadly crash occurred in the 1100 block of Colony Drive near South Hamilton Boulevard at approximately 9:15 p.m. The victim was in her bedroom when a Chrysler PT Cruiser suddenly crashed into her room. The driver of the Cruiser was identified as a 33-year-old Pomona resident named Carmelino Martinezordonez.

The Cruiser was initially heading south on Hamilton Boulevard near Colony Drive. He was driving at high speed, the driver then later lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the victim’s house. The victim was pinned underneath the vehicle for around 20 minutes. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was chased down by local authorities. It was confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Ordonez was later arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI and driving without a license.

Fatal DUI Accident Investigation is Underway

Local authorities are currently investigating the crash. The liability is evident in this case as the suspect was proven to be driving while under the influence of alcohol during the time of the accident. Aside from that, he also fled the scene instead of helping the older woman.

Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one of the most reckless and irresponsible things a driver can do. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics, DUI accidents kill 30 people in the U.S. every day. DUI accidents in the U.S. account for approximately 29 percent of all motor vehicle fatalities. Sixty-one percent of these drunk drivers have a Blood Alcohol Content percentage of .08 and higher.

When facing cases like this, it’s essential to have an experienced Los Angeles wrongful death attorney specializing in DUI accident cases to conduct an independent probe. Attorneys have the resources to help prove the negligence of the liable party. They can re-interview important witnesses, review related surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the responsible party.
