Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash Statistics

Traffic laws aim to keep drivers safe and reduce the possibility of property damage, personal injury, or death. Accidents do occur, especially in congested cities like Sacramento. Such incidents can be traumatic, regardless of whether you are a driver, passenger, pedestrian, or property owner.

Over the last three decades, pedestrians have died at a disproportionately high rate in traffic accidents. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian deaths in the United States increased by 27% between 2007 and 2016, while other traffic-related deaths decreased by 14%.

Walking away from the scene of a pedestrian accident is also more convenient. Fleeing the scene of an accident is a crime in and of itself. Unfortunately, hit-and-runs continue to occur daily in the United States. Pedestrians are involved in approximately 14% of traffic accidents. They account for roughly half of all traffic fatalities. In 2015, 2,386 pedestrians were killed or injured in traffic accidents in Los Angeles.
