One unidentified person was killed after a fatal two-vehicle crash involving a bicyclist on Dickenson Ferry Road and Gurr Road on Thursday morning, October 28.

A 2014 Freightliner big rig was initially making its way to eastbound on West Dickenson Ferry Road at about 55 mph when it rear-ended a bicyclist traveling in front of him.

The bicycle rider sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been disclosed.

Authorities suspect that the lighting in the area may have affected the crash and the lack of reflectors or lighting on the bicycle. Drugs and alcohol were not considered as factors in the collision.

Local authorities are further investigating the case. Witnesses that can give more information about the accident are urged to call the Merced area CHP Office at 209-356-6600.
