One unidentified person was killed after a deadly head-on traffic collision near Livingston on Sunday morning, May 2.
The accident happened at around 12:42 a.m. at the intersection of Olive Avenue and Cressey Way near Livingston.
A 2013 Honda Civic was initially heading northbound on Olive Avenue when, for unclear reasons, the driver veered onto the opposite lane and collided head-on with a 2021 Peterbilt truck.
The Honda caught fire after the collision. The truck driver attempted to pull the Honda driver out of the wreckage but could not fully assist the driver due to the severity of the fire.
Firefighters later arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames. Unfortunately, the Honda driver was unable to survive and was pronounced dead at the scene. Drugs and alcohol were not considered as factors in the accident.
The accident is currently under investigation. Witnesses that can give more information about the accident are urged to contact the Merced area California Highway Patrol office at 209-356-6600.
Fatal Head-On Collision Statistics
Although head-on collisions only represent 2 percent of accidents, they account for 10 percent of fatalities on U.S. roadways. Head-on collisions mainly occur when drivers are distracted or are experiencing over-fatigue.
Head-on collisions often result in serious injuries. It is mainly because there is a lot of energy generated by head-on collisions. In turn, this increased energy means that injuries are more likely to be fatal in this type of crash.
There are many potential causes of head-on collisions. A mechanical error or human error may have caused the accident. Still, regardless of what caused it, your attorney needs to determine what, exactly, caused the accident because this will determine who was at fault (“liable”) for the accident. The person or the company liable for the accident also has a legal obligation to compensate you for your injuries and losses.
