[09-26-2020] Monterey County, CA – Two People Killed Due to a Fatal DUI Accident in Prunedale

Two unidentified people were killed after the vehicle they were riding was struck by a drunk driver in Prunedale on Saturday evening, September 26.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on San Miguel Canyon Road near Mark Ryan Estates. The two victims were riding a Nissan on the roadway when they were suddenly struck by a Chevy truck driven by 21-year-old Joel Gonzales-Garcia. The suspect reportedly crossed the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic then crashed head-on with the Nissan.

Both of the Nissan occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect and four other passengers of the Chevy truck sustained moderate to major injuries from the accident. The four occupants were taken to Natividad Medical Center to receive treatment for their injuries. The suspect was later arrested for driving while under the influence.
