According to the local authorities’ initial reports, the accident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. north of Oak Knoll Avenue. A van heading southbound swerved into the path of a northbound BMW driven by the 19-year-old victim. The victim then attempted to avoid the collision by swerving onto the shoulder but unfortunately lost control of her vehicle. This then caused a huge domino effect affecting multiple cars in the process. The victim’s vehicle rotated into the southbound lane into a pickup truck’s path, which was pushed back into another car.

A total of four vehicles were involved in the collision. The victim was immediately taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center to receive treatment for her injuries.

Multi-vehicle Accident Investigation is Underway

Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the multi-vehicle collision. It is unclear what caused the driver of the van to swerve into the victim’s lane.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 3,304 fatal car accidents in California in 2017. These accidents are caused by various reasons, such as distracted driving, drunk driving, and driver over-fatigue.
