Electric Scooter Accident Statistics

The state of California has a big population. California is a popular place to live and work, and as a result, the state’s roads are congested. As a result, many road users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and scooter riders, are now at risk of being involved in car accidents.

Electric scooters are environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and convenient; however, they also come with several risks. As a result of having a low carbon footprint, the vehicle is tiny and provides little protection from oncoming traffic. Furthermore, these vehicles fail to protect their occupants from other road hazards due to their complete openness.

The sheer volume of motor scooter accidents that have occurred since 2017 is concerning. Between 2014 and 2018, the number of scooter-related injuries and hospital admissions in the United States increased by 222%, reaching over 39,000 injuries, according to EurekaAlert. According to another CDC study, for every 100,000 e-scooter trips taken, 20 people will be injured.
