Fatal Rear-End Crash Statistics

Every year, approximately 60,000 bus accidents happen across the country. Around 14,000 people are injured due to these bus accidents every year. In 2018 alone, 230 fatal bus crashes occurred, leaving 15,000 people injured.

In this case, a rear-end crash occurred. A rear-end accident occurs when one vehicle collides with the car immediately in front of it. Because the leading driver cannot usually prevent the collision, a rear-end accident is often (but not always) the fault of the rear position driver.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, rear-end collisions account for about 29 percent of all traffic accidents resulting in serious injury in the entire country. Rear-end collisions are among the most common car accidents in California. In 2011, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) discovered 118,029 drivers were injured in these rear-end crashes while 405 drivers were killed.
