Fatal Head-On Collision Statistics

Head-on collisions can result in serious injuries. Many of these injuries are permanent, and permanent injuries can cause pain and suffering for the rest of one’s life. Unfortunately, not everyone can survive a collision with another vehicle. One of the most dangerous types of car accidents is a head-on collision. A head-on collision has a much higher force than other types of car accidents. Collisions that collide head-on generate a lot of energy. Because of the increased energy, fatalities are more likely in this type of crash.

Despite the expectation of fewer people on the road due to the coronavirus pandemic, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 38,680 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes in 2020, a 7.2 percent increase from the previous year. Head-on collisions account for only 2% of all accidents, but they account for more than 10% of all fatalities on the road. Distracted driving, drunk driving, driver over-fatigue, and mechanical failure are among the factors that contribute to these collisions.
