Fatal Wrong-Way Collision Statistics

Every year, approximately 355 people are killed in the U.S. due to wrong-way drivers. With the average number of wrong-way collision deaths at 265, 1.34 fatalities per wrong-way death are calculated.

Head-on crashes at intersections occur when drivers disregard traffic laws and signals, such as red lights, stop signs, or yield signs. Sadly, not all victims will be able to survive a head-on crash. Surviving family members have the right to sue a negligent driver for wrongful death after a fatal head-on collision. Some reasons why head-on collisions occur are distracted driving, drunk driving, driver fatigue, and mechanical failure.

No vehicle is immune to possible design flaws or manufacturing mistakes. Frequent recalls are made on vehicle parts because they can create extreme dangers for drivers, their passengers, and others using the road. Common potentially fatal defects include roof crush, brake failures, and seatbelt malfunctions.
