Semi-Truck Accident Statistics

A semi-truck accident takes the life of one American every 15 minutes. Every year in the United States, around 500,000 trucking accidents occur, with roughly 5,000 drivers killed.

Annually, there are approximately 113 people killed, and nearly 3,000 people are injured because of truck accidents in California. The death toll from truck accidents in California is from 200 to 300 each year.

When compared to other forms of car accidents, tractor-trailer collisions are the deadliest. It’s primarily due to big rig trucks’ enormous size disparity with other types of vehicles. When hauling heavy loads, a big rig’s stopping distance increases by 20 to 40 percent.

Because of their size and numerous “blind spots,” large vehicles necessitate a greater stopping distance. In addition to driver weariness, these flaws can result in risky driving and car accidents. Many truck accidents are caused by the negligence of passenger vehicle drivers, not just truck drivers.
