Fatal Two-Vehicle Rollover Collision

When a vehicle overturns as a result of a collision or a departure from the roadway, a rollover accident occurs. Rollover accidents are usually severe and often lead to severe injuries and fatalities.

Every year, approximately 250,000 vehicles are rendered inoperable due to rollover collisions. Nearly 80% of these collisions involve only one vehicle. Ninety percent of one-car rollovers happen after the vehicle leaves the road.

More than 10,000 people died in light vehicle rollover collisions in 1999. Although rollovers only account for about 3% of all serious crashes, they kill about 30% of people riding in a passenger vehicle. A variety of reasons cause these car accidents; they mainly occur due to drunk drivers, distracted drivers, people who break the speed limit, and drivers who ignore road laws in general.
