One unidentified woman was killed due to a multi-vehicle traffic collision on Interstate 15 Freeway in San Diego on Saturday morning, November 7.
The fatal collision took place on Interstate 15 Freeway near Carmel Mountain Road at around 7:40 a.m. A woman was driving a sedan on Interstate 15 on the wet freeway, which caused her to veer off the roadway and turn towards the No.4 lane.
The woman reportedly overcorrected, which caused her to lose control of her vehicle and spun across the freeway. The sedan was then struck on the driver’s side by a truck initially heading southbound on Interstate 15.
The crash then triggered a chain-reaction collision causing other vehicles to get involved. Around four to five cars were said to be involved in the crash. The sedan driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported at the moment.
Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision Investigation is Underway
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the case. They will attempt to determine the causes and circumstances that led to the multi-vehicle crash.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics, there were 3,304 fatal car accidents in California in 2017. Although head-on collisions only represent 2 percent of accidents, they account for 10 percent of fatalities on U.S. roadways. These types of accidents are caused by various reasons, such as distracted driving, drunk driving, and driver over-fatigue.
When facing cases like this, it’s essential to have a seasoned San Diego wrongful death attorney specializing in fatal multi-vehicle accidents to conduct an independent investigation. They can re-interview important witnesses, review relevant surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain the responsible party’s phone and texting records.
