A 39-year-old man identified as Ryan Ferrara was killed in a fatal motorcycle accident in East County, El Cajon, on Saturday evening, July 18.
According to the initial reports from local authorities, the fatal accident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. The victim was riding behind a Harley Davidson on Piping Rock Lane, just east of El Cajon, when the rider lost control and crashed into a parked car on the road’s side.
The motorcycle rider sustained unspecified injuries and was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital to receive treatment. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately brought to Sharm Memorial Hospital, where he, unfortunately, passed away one hour later.
Fatal Motorcycle Accident Investigation is Underway
Local authorities are currently investigating the fatal accident. They will attempt to determine the factors that caused the crash to happen. Local authorities believe that alcohol and drugs may have played a role in the deadly accident. Motorcyclists are more vulnerable to the dangers on the road than a passenger in a private vehicle.
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data, motorcycle riders are 16 times more at risk of injury and 35 times more at risk of facing fatal crashes than a passenger of a private vehicle. Some of the common factors why motorcycle accidents occur are distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving, and failure to observe traffic laws. All riders are required by law (in most states) to wear a helmet and are encouraged to dress appropriately during their motorcycles. It is proven that helmets are 37% effective in preventing motorcycle deaths.
