A 30-year-old U.S. Navy sailor identified as Brent Sturgeon was killed in a fatal two-vehicle collision near the Lindbergh Field on Wednesday morning, August 19.
According to the initial reports from local authorities, the fatal collision transpired around 10:35 a.m. in the 2700 blocks of North Harbor Drive near Laurel Street. Sturgeon drove a blue Subaru sedan heading west on North Harbor Drive, where he attempted to overtake a pickup truck. As he was trying to pass the car, he suddenly lost control of his vehicle.
The Subaru then collided with the pickup truck head-on. Due to the severity of the impact, the Subaru veered off the roadway onto a raised center median and crashed into a light pole. The Subaru was severely damaged as a result of the accident, with its roof sheared off and its windshield shattered.
The driver of the Subaru was extricated from the wreckage. Paramedics suspect that he may have sustained life-threatening injuries. They attempted to perform CPR on Sturgeon, but he was later declared dead on the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.
Two-Vehicle Collision Investigation is Underway
Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fatal accident. Although a variety of road laws protects motorists, roadway accidents are still prevalent across the USA. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), In 2017, there were 3,304 recorded car accidents and 3,602 related deaths in California.
A variety of reasons causes these car accidents; they mainly occur due to drunk drivers, distracted drivers, people who break the speed limit, and drivers who ignore road laws in general.
