Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Walking around California is one of the best ways to experience the state. Unfortunately, it is hazardous to do so. California has some of the nation’s highest rates of pedestrian fatalities and injuries year after year. These mishaps frequently result in severe injuries or death.
Everyone who uses the road in California must respect pedestrians and follow the state’s pedestrian laws. Section 21950 of the California Vehicle Code states that pedestrians do not automatically have the right-of-way when crossing the street. Drivers should be familiar with and obey pedestrian laws, keep an eye out for pedestrians, and give way to them when necessary.
Pedestrian deaths and injuries are on the rise in California, which is unfortunate. When compared to other states, statistics show that California is particularly hazardous for pedestrians. In 2018, there were 893 pedestrian deaths and 14,000 injuries on California’s roads. Pedestrian accidents are frequently caused by careless or reckless driving, excessive speed, or failure to yield to pedestrians. It’s critical to seek the counsel of an experienced lawyer when dealing with complicated legal issues like this one.
