[02-17-2021] San Diego County, CA – Pedestrian Injured After a DUI Crash in Encinitas

An unidentified pedestrian was seriously hurt after getting struck by a DUI driver in Encinitas on Wednesday morning, February 17.

The deadly accident took place in Vulcan Avenue and West D Street in Encinitas at around 10:45 a.m.

The victim was reportedly struck by a Ford Fusion that veered off the roadway. The Ford Fusion then struck a tree after hitting the pedestrian.

The Ford Fusion driver attempted to flee the scene on foot but was pursued by witnesses around the area.

Authorities later apprehended the suspect. The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Local authorities are further investigating the accident. According to jail records, the suspect was booked into Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run. He was being held in a place of $100,000 bail.
