Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Even though skateboarding is a lot of fun, it comes with a high risk of injury. Every year, approximately 70,000 injuries necessitate a trip to the emergency room. Skateboarders in California are considered pedestrians, so riding a board through a crosswalk is legal. The speed skateboarders travel means that a driver will have less time to spot the skateboarder on the road.

Pedestrians should avoid crossing the road at all costs. They are the most at risk of serious injury in the event of a severe accident because they are unprotected and vulnerable. Pedestrian accidents are on the rise in the Golden State.

Pedestrian deaths increased by about a quarter in 2017 to nearly 1,200. Between then and now, over 14,000 pedestrians have been injured. Distracted driving, speeding, intoxicated driving, and failure to yield the right of way are the most common causes of pedestrian accidents.
