Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Passengers in private vehicles, motorcycle riders, and bicyclists are less at risk of being injured or killed in traffic accidents when compared to pedestrians. It’s because they don’t have any safeguards in place in the event of an accident.
Pedestrian deaths and injuries have unfortunately increased over the past few years. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian deaths in the United States increased by 27% between 2007 and 2016, while other traffic-related deaths decreased by 14%.
When compared to other states, statistics show that California is particularly hazardous for pedestrians. In 2018, there were 893 pedestrian deaths and 14,000 injuries on California’s roads. Pedestrian accidents are frequently caused by careless or reckless driving, excessive speed, or failure to yield to pedestrians. When faced with a situation like this, it’s critical to seek the counsel of an accomplished lawyer.
