Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics

One type of car accident is a collision involving multiple vehicles. It’s not uncommon for there to be as many as three vehicles involved. This type of accident is frequently caused by a “chain reaction,” in which one car collides with another, causing the other vehicle to crash with yet another.

There are millions of injuries and thousands of deaths caused by car accidents every year in the United States. According to the Fatality Analysis Report System (FARS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation, 36,560 people died in car accidents last year.

In the United States, a car accident happens once every 60 seconds. There are 5.25 million car accidents every year in the United States. A total of 4.5 million car-accident-related medical consultations were made in 2019. There were $463 billion in motor vehicle injury costs overall.

When three or more vehicles collide on the road, it is called a multi-vehicle accident. “Chain reaction” crashes can occur when cars collide with or collide with other automobiles on the road. Multi-vehicle collisions account for less than 10% of all collisions each year. Despite this, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration claims that they are responsible for a disproportionate number of traffic-related deaths.
