[06-16-2020] Santa Barbara, CA – One Dead, Two Injured After a Car Accident in Lompoc

One person was killed while two other people were injured after a two-vehicle traffic collision in Lompoc on Tuesday afternoon, June 16th.

Santa Lucia Canyon RoadAccording to the initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. A jeep and a Lexus collided on Santa Lucia Canyon Road.

The jeep was traveling southbound on Santa Lucia Canyon Road. The driver crossed the double-yellow line, which caused him to collide with an incoming Lexus traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene while his female passenger sustained significant injuries that she had to be airlifted to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The driver of the jeep fled on foot. A CHP helicopter and K-9 unit were dispatched to locate the suspect. He was eventually caught three hours later by the local authorities. The suspect is now in the custody of the local police. Officers believe that drugs may have played a part in the fatal accident.
