An unidentified woman was killed after a fatal two-vehicle traffic collision in Cupertino on Wednesday morning, September 16.
The fatal crash transpired on the ramp from southbound state Highway 85 to southbound Interstate Highway 280 at approximately 8:50 a.m. The unidentified victim was reportedly driving her 2003 Lexus on the ramp from northbound Highway 85, going towards southbound Highway 280 when she suddenly lost control. She then veered over the elevated dirt median and collided with a 2015 Lexus.
Due to the severity of the impact, both of the vehicles struck a wood and metal guardrail. The driver of the 2003 Lexus died as a result of the collision. The other driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center to receive treatment.
Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision Investigation is Underway
Local authorities are currently investigating the crash. They will attempt to determine the factors that may have caused the collision to occur. Although a variety of road laws protects motorists, roadway accidents are still prevalent across the USA. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2017, there were 3,304 recorded car accidents in California with 3,602 related deaths.
A variety of reasons cause these car accidents; they mainly occur due to drunk drivers, distracted drivers, people who break the speed limit, and drivers who ignore road laws. Side impact car accidents most commonly occur in the middle of intersections due to people’s failure to yield at a stop sign or red light.
