Fatal Head-On Collision Statistics

Every year millions of people are injured in automobile accidents on roads across the United States. According to the United States Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), 33,654 fatal vehicle crashes in 2018 caused 36,560 deaths. One of the most dangerous types of car accidents is a head-on collision. A head-on collision has a much greater force than other types of car accidents.

Head-on collisions can result in serious injuries. Many of these injuries are permanent, and they can cause a lifetime of pain and suffering. Unfortunately, not everyone is capable of surviving a head-on collision.

Although head-on collisions only represent 2 percent of accidents, they account for 10 percent of fatalities on U.S. roadways. Speeding was considered a factor in the accident. Head-on collisions generate a large amount of energy. Injuries in this type of crash are more likely to be fatal due to the increased energy.
