Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Pedestrian accidents frequently result in serious injury or even death. Unlike passengers in private vehicles and motorcycle riders, pedestrians are not protected from fatal accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 5900 pedestrians were killed in the United States in 2016.
Children and the elderly are most likely to be injured or killed while walking anywhere in California. 4,000 elderly Americans were injured in pedestrian accidents last year, resulting in over 700 deaths across the country. Negligent driving, speeding, and drivers failing to yield to pedestrians are all common causes of pedestrian accidents.
