Several people sustained varying degrees of injury after a four-vehicle traffic collision in Highway 1 on Friday afternoon, July 3rd.
According to the initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at around 1:00 p.m.
A truck carrying a disc harrow made an emergency stop on the shoulder of Highway 1 after its disk harrow broke, which caused a fire. A Mercedes, a Chevy Silverado, and a Chevy 2500 heading southbound stopped behind the truck.
Moments later, a Ford Transit van failed to stop at the right time and rear-ended the Mercedes. The impact then led to a chain reaction collision.
The drivers of the Chevrolet and the Chevy Silverado sustained severe injuries. The total number of people injured is currently unspecified. Authorities do not consider drugs or alcohol as a factor in the crash.
Rear-End Collision Investigation is Underway
Local authorities are currently further investigating the accident.
Rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of traffic accidents in California. According to the California Highway Patrol, approximately 118,029 drivers were involved in a rear-end injury car accident, and around 405 drivers were involved in a fatal rear-end collision in 2011.
These accidents are caused by a variety of reasons, such as distracted driving, drunk driving, and driver over-fatigue. When facing cases like this, it’s essential to have an experienced Santa Cruz personal injury attorney conduct an independent probe. Attorneys have the resources that can help them prove the negligence of the guilty party. They will re-interview important witnesses, review relevant surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain the liable party’s phone and texting records.
