An unidentified 42-year-old man was struck by a vehicle while pushing a cart full of recyclable goods in Watsonville early Tuesday morning, December 15.

The victim was partially walking in the westbound lane, in front of a Big Creek Lumber, when a Volvo station wagon suddenly struck him.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The 22-year-old Volvo driver claims that he was unable to avoid the pedestrian. He remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.

Distracted driving and alcohol and drugs were not considered as factors in the deadly accident.
