According to the data from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcycle riders are 16 times more at risk of injury and 35 times more at risk of facing fatal crashes in comparison to a passenger of a private vehicle. Motorcycle riders are less protected from the dangers on the road in comparison with a passenger of a private car. Motorcycle riders are also at risk of sustaining fatal injuries that could lead to paralysis and death.
All riders are required by law (in most states) to wear a helmet and are encouraged to dress appropriately when riding their motorcycles. Helmets are proven to be 37% more effective in preventing motorcycle deaths. Distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving, and failure to observe traffic laws are just some of the common factors why motorcycle accidents occur.
