[06-25-2020] Stanislaus, CA – Deputy Hurt After a DUI Motorcycle Crash in Turlock

An on-duty Stanislaus Sheriff Deputy was seriously hurt after a traffic collision in Turlock on Thursday morning, June 25th.

Tully Road and Main StreetAccording to the initial reports from the local authorities, the motorcycle crash happened at around 6:50 a.m. The deputy was riding his motorcycle at Tully Road and Main Street when he was suddenly hit by a Ford pickup truck.

The Ford pickup truck was reportedly heading eastbound but then turned left on Main Street in front of the deputy’s motorcycle. The motorcycle then crashed with the Ford pickup. The Ford driver was identified as a 33-year-old man named David Arthur Rolland. He remained at the scene and cooperated with local authorities.

The deputy sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to a local trauma center to receive treatment. The Ford driver was later arrested under the suspicion of driving while under the influence.

DUI Motorcycle Accident Investigation is Underway

Local authorities are now attempting to determine the cause of the accident through the official investigation.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data, motorcycle riders are 16 times more at risk of injury and 35 times more at risk of facing fatal crashes than a passenger of a private vehicle. This is because motorcycle riders are less protected from the dangers on the road in comparison with a passenger of a private car. Motorcycle riders are also at risk of sustaining fatal injuries that could lead to paralysis and death.

All riders are required by law (in most states) to wear a helmet and are encouraged to dress appropriately when riding their motorcycles. It is proven that helmets are 37% effective in preventing motorcycle deaths. Distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving, and failure to observe traffic laws are just some of the common reasons motorcycle accidents occur.

When facing cases like this, it’s vital to have an experienced Stanislaus county personal injury attorney specializing in motorcycle accidents to conduct an independent probe. Attorneys can utilize their resources to re-interview important witnesses, review relevant surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party.
