An unidentified 36-year-old man was killed after a fatal pedestrian accident in Ceres on Tuesday morning, July 7th.
According to the initial reports from the local authorities, the fatal accident transpired at around 4:38 a.m. The unidentified victim was hit by a Nissan Versa heading westbound on Whitmore Avenue west of Fairview Drive. The driver was identified as a 54-year-old man named David Gil.
Gil stopped his vehicle and attempted to call the authorities when a two-toned royal blue and gray smart car struck the pedestrian. The driver of the two-toned smart vehicle didn’t stop after the collision. The unidentified pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nissan driver was uninjured. Police don’t consider drugs or alcohol as a factor in the fatal accident.
Fatal Pedestrian Crash Investigation is Underway
The Ceres Police is currently investigating the case. Witnesses that can provide vital information about the accident are urged to call Officer Jerry Kessler at 538-5620. It is apparent in this case that the liability falls on the hit-and-run driver for leaving the victim wounded and fleeing the scene. The suspect will most likely face criminal charges once caught.
Unfortunately, around one in five pedestrian accidents are caused by hit-and-run drivers. Sixty percent of people killed in hit-and-run accidents are pedestrians. Common reasons why hit-and-run drivers flee the scene are intoxication, driving without a license, and fear of getting arrested if they remained.
When facing cases like this, it’s vital to have an experienced Stanislaus wrongful death attorney specializing in fatal hit-and-run bicycle accidents to conduct an independent investigation. Attorneys have the resources to help prove the negligence of the liable party. All contributing factors, such as road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting, should be considered and thoroughly examined.
