The accident took place at La Grange Off-Highway Vehicle Park at around 4:10 p.m. Maganabaez was riding a 2006 Yamaha Raptor all-terrain heading westbound on one of the two-lane entrance roads to the park when he suddenly crossed the road’s double yellow lines.

It is unclear why Maganabaez suddenly veered off to the double yellow lines. The Yamaha Raptor then started heading eastbound in the westbound lane, where he later collided head-on with a 2011 Honda Pilot. The driver of the Honda Pilot was identified as Steven Hamilton.

As a result of the collision, Maganabaez was ejected onto the Pilot’s windshield and then landed on the ground. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The ATV rider sustained severe injuries to the severity of the impact. He suffered fractures, lacerations, and abrasions and was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.

The Honda driver also sustained injuries, and he suffered a laceration on his arm. Fortunately, his 4-year-old passenger was uninjured.

Head-On Collision Investigation is Underway

The California Highway Patrol is currently further investigating the accident. The CHP does not consider drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics, there were 3,304 fatal car accidents in California in 2017. Although head-on collisions only represent 2 percent of accidents, they account for 10 percent of fatalities on U.S. roadways. These types of accidents are caused by various reasons, such as distracted driving, drunk driving, and driver over-fatigue.
