One person was killed while another was hurt after a deadly wrong-way collision near South Avenue on Thursday morning, September 9.

A northbound SUV was reportedly traveling on the southbound lanes of Highway 99 and collided head-on with an oncoming tanker truck.

It’s unclear why the SUV was driving in the wrong direction. The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the operator of the tanker truck sustained moderate injuries in the mishap. He was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.

Information about the accident is limited at the moment. The crash is under further investigation. Local authorities will attempt to determine the factors and the liability in the fatal accident.
