[04-08-2020] Tulare, CA – Teenager Dead After a Truck-Pedestrian Accident in Traver

An 18-year-old boy was killed after getting struck by a semi-tractor-trailer on northbound Highway 99 last Wednesday evening, April 8th.

According to the initial reports from the California Highway Patrol, the teen was driving his 2009 Honda on Highway 99. He later pulled over and parked his car on the side of the highway, just south of Merritt Drive, to fix his flat tire. The teen reportedly went down his vehicle, and at approximately 7:42 p.m., the victim was struck by a semi-truck.

The driver of the semi-truck was identified as a 41-year-old man named Richard Vargas.

Unfortunately, the unidentified teen died at the scene. The semi-truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the local authorities.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident Investigation is Underway

The CHP is currently investigating the cause of the accident. Drugs and alcohol are not considered as factors in the crash.

Pedestrians are more susceptible to the dangers on the roadways. It’s because pedestrians are unprotected to the hazards on the road in comparison with a passenger inside a private vehicle. Passengers of private cars are protected by seatbelts and airbags, which can decrease the fatality rate of an accident while pedestrians are left unprotected from the dangers on the roadways.

According to the statistics from the Governors Highway Safety Association, around 6,227 pedestrians in the U.S. were killed in 2018, which was a 250 increase from the previous year. These accidents are mainly caused by negligent driving or distracted driving.

When facing cases like this, it’s vital to have an experienced Tulare wrongful death attorney specializing in fatal pedestrian accidents to conduct an independent investigation.

During the independent investigation, all possible contributing factors such as road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting will bee considered and thoroughly examined by the wrongful death attorney.
