Thille-Street-and-Saratoga-AvenueAccording to the initial reports from the local authorities, the accident occurred at around 5:47 p.m. just north of Thille Neighborhood Park. The victim was walking near Thille Street and Saratoga Avenue in Ventura when he was suddenly struck by a passing vehicle.

Fatal Accident Investigation is Underway

Local authorities are currently attempting to determine what caused the accident through the official investigation. Witnesses at the scene are urged to call the department’s motor unit at 805-339-4451 for any additional helpful information they can provide about the fatal accident.

Pedestrians are more vulnerable to the dangers on the road in comparison to passengers in a private vehicle. Passengers of private cars are protected by seatbelts and airbags, which can decrease the fatality rate of an accident while pedestrians are not as protected from the dangers on the road.

Pedestrians currently make up a large percentage of traffic fatalities in the past 33 years. According to the statistics from the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian fatalities in the U.S. have increased by 27 percent from 2007-2016 while other traffic-related deaths decreased by 14 percent.

When facing cases like this, it’s imperative to have an experienced Ventura wrongful death attorney specializing in fatal pedestrian accidents to conduct an independent investigation.

Attorneys have the resources to interview essential witnesses, review related surveillance footage from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party. All possible contributing factors, such as road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting, must be considered and thoroughly examined during the independent investigation.

Regardless of whether a pedestrian was walking on a marked crosswalk or not, it is always the driver’s responsibility to yield any incoming pedestrians in his way.
