At least one person was injured after a multi-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 101 exit in Ventura on Thursday afternoon, September 3.
The accident happened on Highway 101 at Telephone Road oof-ramp at approximately 3:18 p.m. Around six vehicles were involved in the collision. A 2011 Lexus hit several other cars on the ramp as it exited the freeway at Telephone road. The Lexus sideswiped a Toyota RAV4, rear-ended a stopped box truck, rear-ended a stopped Mercedes SUV, and sideswiped a Volkswagen Beetle before rear-ending a stopped Ford F-250 truck. The Lexus then came to rest underneath the F-250 truck.
One of the vehicles had plowed underneath the trailer of a work-type pickup truck due to the collision. One woman sustained significant injuries. She was pulled out of the wreckage and taken to a nearby hospital to be treated. No other injuries were reported. Two lanes of the exit were shut down as emergency personnel worked on the scene.
Multi-Vehicle Collision Investigation is Underway
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the cause of the accident. They will also attempt to determine the liability and fault. When three or more cars collide on the roadway, it is considered a multi-vehicle collision. This type of car accident is commonly caused by a “chain reaction,” when one car bumps into another, which causes the other to hit the next vehicle.
Multi-vehicle collisions are commonly caused by drunk driving, speeding, and distracted driving. It can be quite challenging to pinpoint liability during a multi-vehicle collision investigation, so it is essential to hire an experienced Ventura County personal injury attorney to conduct an independent investigation. Attorneys can re-interview important witnesses, review relevant surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain the responsible party’s phone and texting records.
